Legislative practice is like flying a plane. If you’re not a pilot, you can’t fly it; and if you’re not a well trained pilot, you can’t successfully land – after flying.
In the legislature, experience is what we consider institutional memory. And experience makes a huge difference. However, beyond experience, personal reach and connections is also a competitive advantage.
Sen. Osita Izunaso is a national player, and the men contesting the seat of Orlu district at the red chamber are not equipped enough to match or surpass him. His closest rivals (Akpụrụka and Jones) should drop their selfish ambition, for the general benefit of Orlu zone. We need an experienced representative and one who will be ranked, to enable us get Orlu back to her feet.
I am not promoting Sen. Osita Izunaso because others are doing so. I am promoting him for what I know of him and his understanding of legislative practice and procedures.
When we elect Sen. Osita Izunaso, he will be ranked and certainly become a principal officer. Not everyone understands the difference that makes in representation.
Sen. Osita Izunaso will be a principal officer, irrespective of the party that wins the majority votes. That’s the humongous advantage he has over his competitors. Because I know these things, I considered it a duty to inform my people. Because knowledge that is not shared is no knowledge at’ll.
Igbos are behind politically because there’s no equity in our distribution system. *Sen. Osita Izunaso will balance that anomaly with his position as a principal officer, by sponsoring constitution alteration which will give room for the creation of Orlu State. Bayelsa state is made up of 8 local government areas. While Orlu has 12 LGAs.*
With a principal officer, the move for the correction of this error will be smooth. I have discussed this with Sen. Izunaso and the ball is on our our court now.
This is a golden opportunity that must not be sacrificed on the alter of personal interests or party affiliation. Electing Sen. Osita Izunaso is a choice that will open up the equitable political inclusion of ndị Igbo in the National banquet.*
