TRANSFORMING NIGERIA WITH VIABLE PUBLIC POLICIES AND EFFECTIVE LAWS

Public policies and laws are twin assets which play optimal roles in the stabilization of the socio-economic and political fulcrum of any nation.

Critical indices for the measurement of both macro and micro  economic exploits rely heavily on the potency of public policies and the moral fibre of our laws.

Since 1999, Nigeria has squandered billions of dollars on the altar of economic experimentations, thumping different economic models in a desperate bid to fit a square peg into a round hole.

These have kept the nation in the dilemma of persistently chasing wild pipe dreams, with monumental projects which eventually get abandoned.

Fundamentally, for any nation to truly attain rapid economic growth, enabling policies and effective laws must be firmly affixed in place.

If Nigerians genuinely yearn for robust economic reforms, then the elections into the Houses of Assembly in the various states, the Federal House of Representatives and then the Senate must be handled with every seriousness which they deserve.

*Take for instance what the Executive Governor of Delta State has done with the executive bill on Local Content Policy passed on the 16th of September 2020.*

With that single law, the yoke of hopeless unemployment amongst our skilled youths was lifted off their necks as the international oil companies in operation in Delta State are now aware that they’ve been mandated by law to ensure 70% of their workforce comprise of indigenous human capital.

The Bill has also regulated the activities of our local contractors as raw materials are now sourced locally.  This is a prime example of the level of reformation a well-thought-out policy can birth.

In 2023, the voting public ought to ensure that aspirants vying for a seat in the State and National  Assemblies respectively, do understand the role of the legislature. This is a sine qua non if Nigeria is to be exhumed from the dungeons dangling below the value chain.

There ought to be a forum where all aspirants  across the geographical zones would address the delegates before primaries.

Nigerians certainly deserve to be granted this privilege of making informed decisions prior to the casting of their votes, rather than being led to vote blindly along tribal lines or prevarications perched atop the brittle foundation of propaganda.

This nation deserves a far much better deal, but until the people learn what to ask for, they shall not receive.
