Delta North senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko says governor Ifeanyi Okowa is best suited for the highest political office in Nigeria, whether President or Vice President in 2023.
Assessing governor Okowa amidst raging debate on the likely running mate to PDP presidential flag bearer Atiku Abubarkar, Prince Nwoko said the Delta governor has all the qualifications to serve as Vice President.
In a statement in Abuja, Nwoko former member of the House of Representatives noted that Okowa possessed sound education, good breeding, and leadership mastery that appealed to moral authority and an impeccable sense of obligation.
Nwoko said Okowa is blessed with a marvelous track record that set him apart in Nigeria’s polity, serving as local government chairman, commissioner, secretary to state government, Senator, and governor.
He stated that only a man of epic destiny could have gained such glory in the service of his fatherland.
The PDP senatorial candidate said Okowa stands as a political figure of national reckoning, respected across tribal and religious boundaries, with bipartisan associates all over the nation.
Drawing from precedence, Prince Nwoko said Professor Yemi Osibanjo rose to become Vice President after he served as a city commissioner in Lagos state while Dr. Goodluck Jonathan emerged from the local politics of Bayelsa to rule at the centre as Vice President and President of Nigeria. He emphasized that Okowa had been a central character in Nigerian politics, with long-standing national visibility.
According to Nwoko:
“Okowa as senator initiated a national health policy that became a model in the 36 states of the federation. He has consistently served as an inspiration and stabilizing force in PDP, the largest political party in Africa while on the saddle as governor.
“At critical periods in the life of the party, he has been called up to steer the ship of PDP to safety. Okowa was the chairman of the previous PDP convention that saw the emergence of Atiku Abubarkar as a presidential candidate. That convention was the toughest for the party in recent history. It took place when the nation was under political tension, which characterized the 2019 transition. Yet he successfully handled the national assignment, bringing unity and political stability to the party and the nation.
“Back home, Okowa is a source of pride to the people of Delta State and the South-South zone. He is loved and respected as a sincere leader. I can vouch for his integrity and self-discipline. He is a symbol of good governance in Delta, self-evident in human capital development, and provision of social infrastructure across towns and villages.
“ He is highly educated. He is not just a refined medical doctor. He is a tested patriot. He has the right temperament and exposure to lead the nation to the desired progress. A humble, civil, and God-fearing man. Okowa would make a successful Vice President. We must all support him “
